Midesophageal four-chamber view in a patient with severe mitral regurgitation. Doppler color-flow imaging demonstrated a large mitral regurgitant jet that occupied approximately 50% of the left atrial area. The vena contracta or width of the regurgitant jet at the level of the mitral valve coaptation was measured to be 1.2 cm, consistent with severe mitral regurgitation.
TEE: transesophageal echocardiography.
