Histopathology of the ascending aorta in idiopathic aortitis

There is a chronic inflammatory infiltrate in the media with lymphocytes, macrophages, and occasional multinucleated giant cells, associated with areas of medial necrosis. The adventitia shows chronic inflammation and fibrosis.
