For a patient with a breech
fetus who desires ECV and
has no contraindications (eg, placenta
previa, previous classical cesarean birth), we typically perform the procedure
at 37 weeks of gestation. However, it may be performed at any
time after 36+0 weeks of gestation.
ECV: external cephalic version; SC: subcutaneously.
* Factors that may impede success
include, but are not limited to, the following: nulliparity, anterior placenta,
decreased amniotic fluid volume, frank breech presentation, engaged presenting
part. This is discussed in detail in related UpToDate content.
¶ Immediate induction of labor
rather than routine prenatal care may be performed in patients with other
indications for induction of labor (eg, gestational age ≥39 weeks, unstable
fetal lie).
