Leg extension machine

The knee or leg extension machine is used to strengthen the quadriceps muscles during rehabilitation. In the photographs above, the machine is used for eccentric quadriceps contraction: starting position (A) and finishing position (B). The concentric contraction needed to return to the starting position is performed with the unaffected limb. The machine may be used in standard fashion, using one or both legs to perform both the concentric (raising) and eccentric (lowering) movements.
