People with epilepsy (PWE) are at risk of premature death with considerable variability according to the study population. We aimed to estimate the risk and causes of death in PWE according to age, disease severity, disease course, comorbidities, and socioeconomic status in Korea.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) contributes significantly to metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular events, and it may be a comorbidity of epilepsy. The objective of this study was to investigate whether long-term antiseizure medication (ASM) use is associated with the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Methods: We analyzed data from the Chang Gung Research Database.

Urgent transient ischemic attack (TIA) management to reduce stroke recurrence is challenging, particularly in rural and remote areas. In Alberta, Canada, despite an organized stroke system, data from 1999 to 2000 suggested that stroke recurrence after TIA was as high as 9.5% at 90 days.

Functional outcomes after stroke are strongly related to focal injury measures. However, the role of global brain health is less clear. In this study, we examined the impact of brain age, a measure of neurobiological aging derived from whole-brain structural neuroimaging, on poststroke outcomes, with a focus on sensorimotor performance.

Low bone mineral density (BMD) and dementia commonly co-occur in older individuals, with bone loss accelerating in patients with dementia due to physical inactivity and poor nutrition. However, uncertainty persists over the extent to which bone loss already exists before onset of dementia.

AB There is a growing number of forcibly displaced persons (FDPs) worldwide. With more than 100 million people forcibly displaced today, there is an urgent mandate to understand the neurologic care needs of this population and how neurologists and other health care workers can most effectively provide that care.
