One out of every four strokes is a highly preventable recurrent stroke. However, while low-and-middle-income countries (LMICs) experience a disproportionate global burden of stroke, individuals in these regions seldomly participate in pivotal clinical trials, which form the basis for international expert consensus guideline recommendations.

Identifying biological markers of ischemic stroke (IS) is an important research approach to develop innovative therapeutic strategies. This study aimed to assess the association between plasma Growth Differentiation Factor-8 (GDF-8)/Myostatin levels and outcome of IS patients.

Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) as measured by cortical atrophy and white matter hyperintensities [leukoaraiosis], captured via magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are increasing in prevalence due to the growth of the aging population and an increase in cardiovascular risk factors in the population. CSVD impacts cognitive function and mobility, but it is unclear if it affects complex, functional activities like driving.

Neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease (NIID) is a clinically complex neurological disorder that appears sporadically or autosomally. Expansions of intronic GGC trinucleotide repeats in the NOTCH2 N-terminal-like C (NOTCH2NLC) gene cause NIID.

Adults with autosomal recessive spastic ataxia of Charlevoix-Saguenay (ARSACS) often present with reduced upper limb coordination affecting their independence in daily life. Previous studies in ARSACS identified reduced performance in clinical assessments requiring fine and gross dexterity as well as prehension.

Dyskinesia frequently occurs during long-term treatment with levodopa in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and impacts quality of life. Few studies have examined risk factors for developing dyskinesia in PD patients exhibiting wearing-off. Therefore, we investigated the risk factors and impact of dyskinesia in PD patients exhibiting wearing-off.

Prior concomitant use of vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) and antiplatelet (AP) therapy increase the hematoma volume and mortality compared with VKA monotherapy in patients with intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). However, the prior concomitant use of non-vitamin K oral antagonists (NOACs) and AP has not been clarified.

The use of a combination of stroke predictors, such as clinical factors and asymptomatic lesions on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), may improve the accuracy of stroke risk prediction. Therefore, we attempted to develop a stroke risk score for healthy individuals.

The safety of intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA) and mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in patients treated with direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) before stroke has not been fully investigated. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the safety of recanalization therapy in patients receiving DOACs.

When exploring a visual scene, humans make more saccades in the horizontal direction than any other direction. While many have shown that the horizontal saccade bias rotates in response to scene tilt, it is unclear whether this effect depends on saccade amplitude.
