Efficacy of an aerosol suction device Free-100 M in removing aerosols produced by coughing to minimize COVID-19 infection

Asuka Fujishiro, Takashi Asai, Tomoyuki Saito & Yasuhisa Okuda

doi : 10.1007/s00540-022-03144-6

The healthcare workers are at the greatest risk of being exposed to viral infection during airway management of a patient with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). An air extractor which suctions air around the patient's face would reduce the spread of viral aerosols during coughing, but no study has confirmed this. We assessed whether or not an air extractor reduces the amount of aerosols spreading toward the operator's face, during coughing of simulated patients.

Effect of remimazolam on the incidence of delirium after transcatheter aortic valve implantation under general anesthesia: a retrospective exploratory study

Shohei Kaneko, Takayuki Morimoto, Taiga Ichinomiya, Hiroaki Murata, Osamu Yoshitomi & Tetsuya Hara

doi : 10.1007/s00540-022-03148-2

Delirium after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) should be prevented because it is associated with worse patient outcomes. Perioperative administration of benzodiazepines is a risk factor for postoperative delirium; however, the association between remimazolam, a newer ultrashort-acting benzodiazepine for general anesthesia, and postoperative delirium remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate whether remimazolam administration during TAVI under general anesthesia affected the incidence of postoperative delirium.

Tracheal tube cuff pressure during anesthesia for robotic-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy and the efficacy of an automatic cuff pressure controller (SmartCuff): observational studies of 1-sample paired data

Naoyuki Tsunoda, Takashi Asai & Yasuhisa Okuda

doi : 10.1007/s00540-022-03151-7

The cuff pressure of a tracheal tube may increase during robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery for prostatectomy (RALP), which requires pneumoperitoneum in a steep head-down position, but there have been no studies which confirmed this.
