Sex Differences in Clinical Features, Treatment, and Lifestyle Factors in Patients With Cluster Headache.

Fourier, Carmen MSc, PhD; Ran, Caroline MSc, PhD; Steinberg, Anna MD, PhD; Sjostrand, Christina MD, PhD; Waldenlind, Elisabet MD, PhD; Belin, Andrea Carmine MSc, PhD

doi : 10.1212/WNL.0000000000201688

Cluster headache is considered a male-dominated disorder, but we have previously suggested that female patients may display a more severe phenotype. Studies on sex differences in cluster headache have been conflicting; therefore, this study, with the largest validated cluster headache material at present, gives more insights into sex-specific characteristics of the disease.

Traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) is highly heterogeneous, and tools to better delineate pathophysiology and recovery are needed. Our objective was to profile the response of 2 biomarkers, neurofilament light (NF-L) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), in the serum and CSF of patients with acute SCI to evaluate their ability to objectively characterize injury severity and predict neurologic recovery.

Development and External Validation of a Deep Learning Algorithm to Identify and Localize Subarachnoid Hemorrhage on CT Scans.

doi : 10.1212/WNL.0000000000201710

In medical imaging, a limited number of trained deep learning algorithms have been externally validated and released publicly. We hypothesized that a deep learning algorithm can be trained to identify and localize subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) on head computed tomography (CT) scans and that the trained model performs satisfactorily when tested using external and real-world data. Methods: We used noncontrast head CT images of patients admitted to Helsinki University Hospital between 2012 and 2017.

To test the hypothesis that the age and sex-specific prevalence of infectious (pneumonia, sepsis, and urinary tract infection [UTI]) and noninfectious (deep venous thrombosis [DVT], pulmonary embolism [PE], acute renal failure [ARF], acute myocardial infarction [AMI], and gastrointestinal bleeding [GIB]) complications increased after acute ischemic stroke (AIS) hospitalization in the United States from 2007 to 2019. Methods: We conducted a serial cross-sectional study using the 2007-2019 National Inpatient Sample

Moeller, Jeremy MD, MSc; Salas, Rachel Marie E. MD, MEd

doi : 10.1212/WNL.0000000000201669

AB In the past decade, there have been dramatic changes in all aspects of neurologic care, and along with this, neurology education has transformed. These changes have affected all aspects of education across the educational continuum, including learners, teachers, educators, content, delivery methods, assessments, and outcomes. Health systems science, health humanities, diversity, equity, and inclusion and health disparities are becoming core components of neurology curricula, and, in the future, will be integrated into every aspect of our educational mission.
