Lymphoid Interstitial Pneumonia (LIP) Revisited: A Critical Reappraisal of the Histologic Spectrum of "Radiologic" and "Pathologic" LIP in the Context of Diffuse Benign Lymphoid Proliferations of the Lung.

Fraune, Christoph MD *; Churg, Andrew MD +; Yi, Eunhee S. MD ++; Khoor, Andras MD, PhD [S]; Kelemen, Katalin MD, PhD [//]; Larsen, Brandon T. MD, PhD [//]; Butt, Yasmeen M. MD [//]; Smith, Maxwell L. MD [//]; Gotway, Michael B. MD [P]; Ryu, Jay H. MD #; Tazelaar, Henry D. MD [//]

doi : 10.1097/PAS.0000000000002014

AB The use of lymphoid interstitial pneumonia (LIP) as a diagnostic term has changed considerably since its introduction. Utilizing a multi-institutional collection of 201 cases from the last 20 years that demonstrate features associated with the LIP rubric, we compared cases meeting strict histologic criteria of LIP per American Thoracic Society (ATS)/European Respiratory Society (ERS) consensus ("pathologic LIP"; n=62) with cystic cases fulfilling radiologic ATS/ERS criteria ("radiologic LIP"; n=33) and with other diffuse benign lymphoid proliferations.

AB Despite a wide spectrum of clinical presentations, including primary or secondary, most angiosarcomas are considered high grade. One exception is primary breast angiosarcoma, where historically, histologic grading has shown to predict outcome using the Rosen 3-tier system.

Molecular Characterization of Multifocal Granular Cell Tumors.

Dehner, Carina A. MD, PhD *; Schroeder, Molly C. PhD *; Lyu, Yang PhD +; Bell, Robert MD *; Borcherding, Dana C. PhD +; Moon, Tyler MD ++; Hirbe, Angela MD, PhD +; Chrisinger, John S.A. MD *

doi : 10.1097/PAS.0000000000001992

AB Granular cell tumors (GrCT) were recently found to be driven by inactivating mutations in vacuolar H+-ATPase (V-ATPase) genes, most frequently ATP6AP1 and ATP6AP2. Multifocal presentation is present in ~10% of cases; however, the relationship between multifocal tumors in a given patient has not been elucidated.

doi : 10.1097/PAS.0000000000002004

AB Striated duct adenoma (SDA) is a rare salivary gland neoplasm defined by histologic similarity to normal striated ducts. However, doubt persists about whether SDA represents a genuine entity distinct from canalicular adenoma and if a malignant counterpart exists.
