Internal neurofibromas, including plexiform neurofibromas (PNF), can cause significant morbidity in patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). PNF growth is most pronounced in children and young adults, with more rapid growth thought to occur in a subset of PNF termed distinct nodular lesions (DNL).

While underlying pathophysiology linking obesity to brain health is not completely understood, white adipose tissue (WAT) is considered a key player. In obesity, WAT becomes dysregulated, showing hyperplasia, hypertrophy, and eventually inflammation.

AB In medical school, students learn to view the world through a biomedical lens. While necessary clinically, this lens can be impersonal. For example, the mental status examination (MSE) evaluates cognitive function through a brief assessment of alertness and orientation to person, place, time, and situation.
