Argument for Prompt Corneal Cross-Linking on Diagnosis of Keratoconus in a Pediatric Patient.

Henriquez, Maria A. MD, MSc, PhD

doi : 10.1097/ICO.0000000000003106

Volume 41(12) pgs. 1471-1599,e23-e28 December 2022

AB Strong evidence suggests that corneal crosslinking is a safe procedure capable of stopping or slowing down the progression of keratoconus, avoiding visual loss associated with progression, and delaying or preventing the need for corneal transplantation. The progressive and chronic nature of the disease makes the option for prompt crosslinking upon keratoconus diagnosis in a pediatric patient valid. Copyright (C) 2022 Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. This study describes the surgical outcomes of selective endothelialectomy in Peters anomaly (SEPA), a relatively new technique to manage Peters anomaly (PA). Methods: This study included 34 eyes of 28 children who had a visually significant posterior corneal defect due to PA and underwent SEPA between 2012 and 2019. A selective endothelialectomy from the posterior corneal defect was performed while preserving Descemet membrane.

Comprehensive Analysis of circRNA-Associated-ceRNA Networks in Human Corneal Endothelial Dysfunction.

Qiu, Ji-ni MD *,+; Shan, Kun MD, PhD *,+; Xiang, Jun MD, PhD *,+; Gu, Jia-yu BM *; Zhou, Rong-mei MD, PhD *,+; Zhang, Xue-ling MS *,+; Zhang, Chao-ran MD, PhD *,+; Xu, Jian-jiang MD, PhD *,+

doi : 10.1097/ICO.0000000000003065

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a novel class of endogenous noncoding RNAs that regulate gene expression through the competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) mechanism. CircRNA-associated-ceRNA networks are closely related to oxidative stress-related diseases. Oxidative stress-induced dysfunction of the corneal endothelium (CE) is a major pathological feature in many corneal diseases.
