Spatial Navigation and Its Association With Biomarkers and Future Dementia in Memory Clinic Patients Without Dementia.

Tangen, Gro Gujord PhD; Nilsson, Maria H. PhD; Stomrud, Erik MD, PhD; Palmqvist, Sebastian MD, PhD; Hansson, Oskar MD, PhD

doi : 10.1212/WNL.0000000000201106

Impaired spatial navigation is considered an early sign in many neurodegenerative diseases. We aimed to determine whether spatial navigation was associated with future dementia in patients with subjective cognitive decline (SCD) or mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and to explore associations between spatial navigation and biomarkers of Alzheimer disease (AD) and neurodegeneration.

doi : 10.1212/WNL.0000000000201019

To assess the incidence of amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA) in clinical trials of anti-[beta]-amyloid (A[beta]) immunotherapy and compare the incidence among different agents and clinical characteristics to identify possible predisposing factors for ARIA. Methods: The PubMed and Embase databases were searched for clinical trials of anti-A[beta] immunotherapy published on or before January 12, 2022.

[beta]-Amyloid, Tau, Neurodegeneration Classification and Eligibility for Anti-amyloid Treatment in a Memory Clinic Population.

Rosenberg, Anna PhD; Ohlund-Wistbacka, Ulf MD; Hall, Anette PhD; Bonnard, Alexandre MD; Hagman, Goran MSc; Ryden, Marie MD; Thunborg, Charlotta PhD; Wiggenraad, Fleur MD; Sandebring-Matton, Anna PhD; Solomon, Alina MD, PhD *; Kivipelto, Miia MD, PhD*

doi : 10.1212/WNL.0000000000201043

ATN ([beta]-amyloid [A[beta]], tau, neurodegeneration) system categorizes individuals based on their core Alzheimer disease (AD) biomarkers. An important potential future use for ATN is therapeutic decision-making in clinical practice once disease-modifying treatments (e.g., anti-amyloid), become widely available. In this cross-sectional study, we applied ATN and estimated potential eligibility for anti-amyloid treatment in a real-life memory clinic with biomarker assessments integrated into the routine diagnostic procedure and all specialized resources available for the implementation of novel treatments.

Socioeconomic Status, Biological Aging, and Memory in a Diverse National Sample of Older US Men and Women.

Avila-Rieger, Justina PhD; Turney, Indira C. PhD; Vonk, Jet M.J. PhD; Esie, Precious MPH; Seblova, Dominika PhD; Weir, Vanessa R. BA; Belsky, Daniel W. PhD; Manly, Jennifer J. PhD

doi : 10.1212/WNL.0000000000201032

Exposure to socioeconomic disadvantage is associated with early-onset cognitive aging. Biological aging, the progressive loss of system integrity that occurs as we age, is proposed as a modifiable process mediating this health inequality. We examined whether socioeconomic disparities in cognitive aging in mid-to late-life adults is explained by accelerated biological aging similarly across race, ethnicity, and sex/gender.

Prehospital Telestroke vs Paramedic Scores to Accurately Identify Stroke Reperfusion Candidates: A Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial.

Scott, Imogene Mary MBChB; Manoczki, Csilla MBChB; Swain, Andrew Herbert MBChB, PhD; Ranjan, Abhishek MS; McGovern, Michael Garth; Shyrell Tyson, Alicia Lucy BNurs PGDip; Hyslop, Melissa Claire BHSc; Punter, Martin Michael MBBS, PhD; Ranta, Annemarei MD, PhD, FRACP

doi : 10.1212/WNL.0000000000201104

Stroke reperfusion therapy is time critical. Improving prehospital diagnostic accuracy including the likelihood of large vessel occlusion can aid with efficient and appropriate diversion decisions to optimize onset-to-treatment time. In this study, we investigated whether prehospital telestroke improves diagnostic accuracy when compared with paramedic assessments and assessed feasibility

Associations of Prestroke Physical Activity With Stroke Severity and Mortality After Intracerebral Hemorrhage Compared With Ischemic Stroke.

Viktorisson, Adam MD; Buvarp, Dongni MD, PhD; Reinholdsson, Malin PT; Danielsson, Anna PT, PhD; Palstam, Annie PT, PhD; Stibrant Sunnerhagen, Katharina MD, PhD

doi : 10.1212/WNL.0000000000201097

Prestroke physical activity may protect the brain from severe consequences of stroke. However, previous studies on this subject included mainly ischemic stroke cases, and the association between prestroke physical activity and outcomes after intracerebral hemorrhage is uncertain.

Six-Minute Walk as a Measure of Walking Capacity and Endurance in Patients With Pediatric-Onset Multiple Sclerosis.

Brenton, J. Nicholas MD; Florenzo, Brian BS; Koshiya, Hitoshi MD; Min, Seulgi BA; Woolbright, Emma BS; Coleman, Rachael MPH; Chen, Shanshan PhD; Goldman, Myla MD, MSc

doi : 10.1212/WNL.0000000000201098

Despite low levels of disability, youth with pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis (POMS) engage in less physical activity compared with peers. The contribution of walking capacity, endurance, behavior, and MS comorbidities remains relatively undefined and may provide valuable insights into the limitations toward physical activity in youth with MS.

doi : 10.1212/WNL.0000000000201113

Infantile spasms (IS) are early childhood seizures with potentially devastating consequences. Standard therapies (adrenocorticotropic hormone [ACTH], high-dose prednisolone, and vigabatrin) are strongly recommended as the first treatment for IS.

Structural Neuroimaging in Adults and Adolescents With Newly Diagnosed Focal Epilepsy: The Human Epilepsy Project.

Bank, Anna M. MD; Kuzniecky, Ruben MD; Knowlton, Robert C. MD; Cascino, Gregory D. MD; Jackson, Graeme MBBS, FRACP, PhD; Pardoe, Heath R. PhD; for the Human Epilepsy Project Investigators

doi : 10.1212/WNL.0000000000201125

Identification of an epileptogenic lesion on structural neuroimaging in individuals with focal epilepsy is important for management and treatment planning. The objective of this study was to determine the frequency of MRI-identified potentially epileptogenic structural abnormalities in a large multicenter study of adolescent and adult patients with newly diagnosed focal epilepsy.

Health-Related Quality of Life in Adults With Classical Infratentorial Superficial Siderosis: A Cross-sectional Study.

Kharytaniuk, Natallia MRCS(ENT), MRCS(I), MCh; Mazaheri, Amir Ala MSc; Pavlou, Menelaos MSc; Werring, David J. FRCP, PhD; Bamiou, Doris-Eva MD, MSc, FRCP, PhD

doi : 10.1212/WNL.0000000000201115

Infratentorial superficial siderosis (iSS) is a rare but disabling neurologic condition characterized by progressive hearing loss and balance and mobility problems. The functional decline in these neurologic domains with iSS progression is likely to adversely affect health-related quality of life (HRQoL). We studied the HRQoL of adults with iSS using 2 common generic HRQoL measures (Health Utilities Index Mark III [HUI3] and EuroQoL EQ5D [5 Level]) to determine the most affected domains and evaluate the association between HRQoL scores and disease duration.
